Andrew Gibson joined Walkers' Cayman Islands office in August 2013 where he is a Senior Counsel in the Insolvency & Dispute Resolution Group. Andrew specialises in commercial litigation, cross border dispute resolution, contentious insolvency, fraud, real estate and construction litigation, international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. Andrew regularly appears before the Grand Court's specialist Financial Services Division, and has been involved in a number of recent high profile disputes, including AHAB v SICL & Others; the most significant fraud trial, both in terms of value and length, ever to be heard in the Cayman Islands where the claims and counterclaims at their height amounted to over US$17 billion. In particular, Andrew played a central role in the electronic discovery process, in which millions of documents in a multitude of languages were critically analysed across eight countries – the largest ever document review to be managed from the Cayman Islands. Andrew was also involved in the multi-jurisdictional high profile corruption proceedings of Republic of Djibouti & Others v Abdourahman Boreh & Others.Andrew is an arbitration specialist and has experience of working under a variety of institutional rules including ICC, LCIA, AAA, DIAC and DIFC-LCIA. Andrew advises on all matters relating to arbitration in the Cayman Islands, including validity of arbitration agreements, procedural issues, interim measures, and enforcement of foreign and domestic arbitral awards.
